The Dead River Bridge Walk for Diabetes takes place Sunday, October 13th

A conversation with Mary Rule, 1st Vice President of the Marquette Lions Club

This October, the Marquette Lions Club will host the Dead River Bridge Walk to promote diabetes awareness. In an interview at our main studio, Mary Rule, the first vice president of the Marquette Lions Club, shared details about the event, set for Sunday, October 13th at Tourist Park in Marquette. The event will raise awareness about diabetes, a critical health issue in the Upper Peninsula.

The Dead River Bridge Walk will give participants the opportunity to engage in healthy physical activity, an important factor in preventing and managing diabetes. The 2-mile walk will start at campsite number one at Tourist Park, winding along the city’s bike path, passing under the first Dead River Bridge, and continuing out to the Lake Superior shoreline. Walkers will enjoy scenic views of the harbor and the historic iron ore dock before looping back to the park.

In addition to the walk, the event will feature educational resources and support for those living with or at risk of diabetes. Dr. Conway McLean will present on wellness topics, including foot and eye care, which are critical concerns for people managing the disease. Other health professionals, educators in nutrition, and medical providers will also be present to provide valuable information and resources for participants.

Kurt Hauswirth welcomed Mary Rule to our studios to talk about the bridge walk:

The Dead River Bridge Walk will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on October 13th, rain or shine. Those unable to participate in the walk can still support the cause by donating through the Marquette Lions Club website or Facebook page. All proceeds will go toward diabetes awareness initiatives in the local community.
