LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan Republicans have elected a new key party official during the state's GOP convention in Lansing.
Rob Steele was chosen Saturday as the next Michigan national committeeman.
Steele made comments Saturday about the "passion" at the convention in Lansing and called for the GOP to unite against its "common enemy" the Left.
He will succeed Dave Agema who had refused Republicans' calls for him to resign for derogatory Facebook posts and links to articles about gays, Muslims and African-Americans.
On Saturday, Michigan Republicans also re-elected Kathy Berden as national committeewoman. Berden has worked in local party leadership positions.
