Accidental shooting kills Bates Township woman

BATES TOWNSHIP, MI--   State Police from the Iron Mountain Post are investigating a fatal shooting in Iron County.

Troopers were dispatched March 23 to a Bates Township residence on a report of an accidental shooting. Preliminary investigation revealed a 20-year-old woman had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Her name is being withheld at the request of her family.

Troopers were assisted by Michigan State Police detectives, State Police Crime Lab personnel, and the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
