Ambulance accident in Peshtigo claims life

PESHTIGO, WI--   A 76-year-old Wisconsin woman has been killed in a crash with an ambulance in Marinette County.

Sheriff’s deputies say the accident happened Tuesday morning at the intersection of US-41 and Access Road #3 in Peshtigo.  A Delta County ambulance with driver, EMT and patient was southbound in non-emergency mode when a car pulled out of the access road into its path.  The car was hit broadside and pushed into the northbound lanes of the highway.  The ambulance crossed the median and came to rest on some railroad tracks.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, as was her dog, the only passenger.  The driver of the ambulance was injured and all occupants of the ambulance were taken to Bay Area Medical Center for treatment.

Train traffic was delayed for several hours until the scene was cleared.

No names have yet been released.
