Bankruptcy off the table, DCHS says

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   Officials with Dickinson County Healthcare System say the future isn’t as bleak as once thought.

The August financial data report showed a profit of $51,000. Although the financial picture looks stable for the next couple of months, officials say they continue to look for ways to increase utilization of the hospital.

Venable, LLC representative Bart Stupak said, “DCJS has assets that are greater than their liabilities and their defined benefit pension plan is funded at a little over 70 percent.  From what we can see bankruptcy is totally off the table and we are not even thinking that right now.”

The hospital approved a Venable recommendation to hire a consultant to perform a feasibility study. It will provide Venable with the data necessary to properly evaluate DCHS revenue sources and expenses.
