Chippewa County fugitive discovered in Tennessee

Chippewa County Sheriff's Office

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   One of Chippewa County’s most wanted criminals has been arrested in Tennessee.

Sheriff Mike Bitnar says Joseph Ellsworth is wanted on seven felony warrants out of Chippewa and Mackinac counties. The warrants are for home invasion, multiple counts of breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property, and receiving stolen property. He’s accused of breaking into area churches and stealing money from them.

Arrangements are being made to bring Ellsworth back to the U.P. to face criminal charges.

Bitnar is thanking the public for all the tips that lead to Ellsworth’s arrest.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
