U.P. Cold Case Team asks for help

By Nicole Walton

St. Ignace, MI – Officials with the Upper Peninsula Cold Case Team are asking for help in solving a 14-year-old murder. Marvel Anderson, 16, was last seen on the afternoon of May 2, 1994, after leaving LaSalle High School in St. Ignace. She was reported missing that night. Anderson was five months pregnant at the time, and failed to show for a doctor's appointment the next day. Her remains were discovered on September 3, 1995 by bear hunters in the Hiawatha National Forest, about ten miles north of St. Ignace.

Mackinac County prosecutor Fred Feleppa says officials have followed several tips in the case, but are looking for the critical piece of evidence that will break it open. Anyone with information regarding Anderson's death is asked to call 866-901-8477.

The Cold Case Team includes officers from the Michigan State Police, St. Ignace Police Department, FBI, and Federal Forest Service.
