Congressional Dems say Trump forced their hand

DETROIT, MI (MPRN)--   Michigan Congressional Democrats who had resisted pursing impeachment proceedings against President Trump say they now strongly support Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s call to open a formal inquiry.

As WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter reports, Democrats say Trump’s politically-tinged discussion with the President of Ukraine has forced their hand.

Some Democrats had feared impeachment hearings could push moderate voters away from their party. But the chorus for impeachment swelled after Trump admitted he urged the president of Ukraine to investigate Trump’s political rival Joe Biden and Biden’s son.

Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell says the nation needs to know if the President tried to leverage U.S. foreign policy for political gain.

“My job right now is to protect this country’s national security and to protect the constitution of the United States. I think we’re all doing what’s the right thing to do…what’s the moral thing to do.”

Trump promptly tweeted – in all caps – “Presidential harassment!”
