Delta County passenger flights grounded

flickrhivemind.net

ESCANABA, MI--   Flights at the Delta County Airport are canceled for a time because of equipment failure.

The Federal Aviation Administration weather equipment called AWOS—or Airport Weather Observations System—is malfunctioning, and flights cannot take off or land without it.

Airport administration says no one but FAA staff can diagnose and fix the problem, and because Monday is a federal holiday the AWOS won’t be examined until at least Tuesday morning.  At that point Delta County officials should know how long the equipment will be down.

Airport officials say by releasing the information passengers can make informed decisions about their traveling plans this week.

Anyone with questions about their flight can call Delta Airlines' local phone number, (906)789-5654.
