MARQUETTE, MI-- An NMU fraternity member hit by a vehicle during a charity event November 2 faces a long recovery time.
WLUC-TV reports Leo Maiorana is a 23-year-old sophomore and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. He was pushing a bathtub along M-28 near Shelter Bay as a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital when a car hit a safety vehicle behind him. Maiorana was struck by the safety vehicle and thrown from the scene.
Family members say the tibia in Maiorana’s left leg was broken and both bones in his right leg were shattered. He underwent surgery on both legs and was released from the hospital. The family says it could take six months before Maiorana can walk again, and it could be 18 months before he’s fully recovered.
Two other fraternity members were injured in the accident. Their conditions are unknown.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Maiorana. It can be accessed by clicking here.
