Food pantries roll into Upper Peninsula

MARQUETTE, MI--   A number of mobile food pantries are making stops in the U.P. this month.

Feeding America West Michigan and the Portage Health Foundation are hosting them in several counties, including Alger, Menominee, Marquette, Baraga, Houghton and Ontonagon. Fruits, vegetables, dairy products and baked goods will be available for about 300 families.

Attendees do not need to show proof of income or their IDs to get food, but they will need to provide basic contact information and affirm they are in need of food. Boxes of items will be provided in a drive-through format in a first come, first served basis.

The locations, dates and times of the mobile food pantries are as follows:

  • October 14, 2020

2 p.m. at Community Action Service Center in Houghton (310 E. Sharon Avenue)

10:00 AM - Menominee County, M&M Plaza (old Kmart parking lot)- Distribution Start Time is Central Time, 1307 8th Ave., Menominee, MI 49858

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
