Great year for U.P. fair

ESCANABA, MI--   It was a record-breaking year for the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba.

Vickie Micheau is executive director of the Delta Commerce Center, which contracts with the U.P. State Fair Authority to manage the fair.

She says attendance was nearly 80,000—up 4 percent from last year.  And ridership at the Skerbeck Carnival rose nearly 10 percent from 2012.

Micheau also credits beautiful weather for the fair’s success.  She says the grandstands were near capacity for the country and rock musical entertainment, and food vendors also had more variety in their offerings.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
