HOUGHTON, MI-- The Michigan Department of Transportation will conduct routine maintenance and testing of the Portage Lake lift bridge between Houghton and Hancock next week.
The scheduled event will require bridge lifts and lane closures.
Evaluation of structural, mechanical, and electrical components on the bridge is set for Monday through Thursday. The work will require several brief bridge lifts, up to
15 minutes each. The lifts may happen between 9 and 11:30 a.m., between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., and after 7 p.m. each day. Closures will affect vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic.
There will also be single-lane closures of the outside bridge lanes Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m.
Officials say the work will help ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the bridge.
