Longtime Marquette Scout honored

Dewey Jones

MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   A Marquette man has been honored for 70 years of service to the Boy Scouts of America.

Marvin Gibson received a 70-year veteran's service pin from the National Scout Office in a ceremony attended by family, friends, scouts and district scout executives.

Gibson began his scouting career in 1945 when he joined the Cub Scouts. He went on to earn the Eagle Scout rank. He served as a scoutmaster in Marquette from 1956 to 1974.

His Scout activities have been limited lately because of health issues, but he still helps when he can.

Gibson says his service is all about "working with the kids."
