Marquette firefighters to Fill the Boot for the MDA

MARQUETTE, MI--   Firefighters return to Marquette street corners Friday and Saturday to Fill the Boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

For more than 60 years firefighters have stood on corners or at storefronts to collect donations in their boots from pedestrians and motorists. The funds help kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases live the life they’ve always imagined, without limits.

Last year Marquette City Firefighters received more than $13,000 in donations from the community.

On Friday firefighters will be stationed from 2 to 6 p.m. at the corner of Cleveland and McClellan and Third and Hewitt. On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. they’ll be at three locations in Marquette:  Pine and Fair, Third and Hewitt and Front and Washington.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
