Marquette firefighters training in vacant house this week

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Fire Department doesn’t want the public to be overly concerned if smoke is seen near Presque Isle Park.

Crews will be training this week at a vacant residence at 3152 Island Beach Road. The house is scheduled to be demolished, so the fire department is using it for training exercises.

Residents may see some light smoke in the area from a smoke generator, but the house will not be actively burned. Firefighters are asking residents to use caution in the area.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
