MDOT asks for federal money to fix Upper Peninsula roads

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Michigan Department of Transportation has requested emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration to repair flood-damaged roads in the U.P.

If granted, the funds would be used to fix federally supported state and local roads in Houghton, Gogebic, and Menominee counties. All three counties were declared disaster areas by Governor Rick Snyder last week after flash flooding destroyed roadways.

Damage estimates are anticipated to exceed $28.7 million. FHWA will determine eligibility for federal relief funds following a review of the estimates. MDOT is requesting the expedited release of any money.
