MGH looks to bring facilities into the future

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette General Hospital is finalizing short- and long-term plans to upgrade its facilities.

Officials say they’ll spend $300 million over the next ten years to improve the hospital for patients, staff and the community.

That includes an overall cosmetic facelift, including new paint and carpeting.

An 18,000-square-foot shell under the Emergency Department will be turned into an ambulatory surgery center by the end of the year.

Four stories will be added on to the West Building.  The addition will house the Family Birthing/NICU unit and 60 private patient rooms.

Officials say a several-story medical office building with adjoining parking ramp will be located between the West Building and 7th Street.

Radiation Oncology and associated services will move to the 1984 Building, creating a unified cancer center.

Patient units in the 1981 Building will be redesigned and turned into private patient rooms.

Officials say additions and the demolition of some existing structures are on the drawing board.

The hospital also plans to welcome 84 new physicians by the end of next year.
