Nessel, Cavanagh to hold elder abuse listening tour in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University will be the final stop for Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan Cavanagh on their statewide listening tour about elder abuse.

The meetings have been held to identify issues facing Michigan seniors to better guide the Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Task Force.

At least 73,000 older adults in Michigan are victims of elder abuse at the hands of individuals entrusted to care for them. Nessel says abusers go to great lengths to harm the members of the senior community in the forms of abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The meeting takes place Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Northern Center. It is open to the public.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
