One killed in Munising Township crash

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI--   An AuTrain man has been killed in an Alger County traffic accident.  

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Wednesday around 4:50 a.m. on Federal Forest Highway 13 about a half-mile south of M-28 in Munising Township.

Deputies say two vehicles crashed head-on, killing Scott Mellon, 20, of AuTrain. 

The driver of the other vehicle, Brandon Lester, 27, of Garden, was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, treated and released.

An autopsy is planned to determine Mellon’s cause of death. 

The accident remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
