MARQUETTE, MI--   Thursday was another record day for COVID-19 cases in the Upper Peninsula.

Health officials reported 426 lab-confirmed cases in the region. The number per county is as follows:

  • Alger-5
  • Baraga-37
  • Chippewa-10
  • Delta-94
  • Dickinson-76
  • Gogebic-20
  • Houghton-55
  • Iron-8
  • Keweenaw-3
  • Luce-3
  • Mackinac-5
  • Marquette-87
  • Menominee-15
  • Ontonagon-3

Seven people died Thursday: one in Baraga County, two in Delta, one in Dickinson, one in Marquette, one in Menominee, and one in Ontonagon County.
The Marquette County Health Department says the overwhelming number of coronavirus cases has made standard contact tracing ineffective. The department is now targeting its tracing to the most vulnerable populations: children 18 and younger; those living in, working at or visiting acute care, skilled nursing, mental health or long-term care facilities; people at higher risk for severe illness; and cases considered to be at risk for an outbreak.

In Marquette County, Gwinn Schools are the latest to move to all-online instruction. In-person learning is set to resume November 30.
