Snow causes accident on CR 550

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Big Bay man escaped injury after his vehicle hit an Eagle Mine hauling truck on County Road 550 Wednesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 8:10 a.m. near Wetmore Landing in Marquette Township.  Deputies say Timothy Westfall, 48, was southbound when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered road, spun out, crossed the centerline, and crashed into a northbound hauling truck driven by Daniel Host, 25, of Gwinn.  The truck was empty at the time of the crash and suffered only minor damage.

County Road 550 was closed for about 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported, but Westfall was found to be at fault in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
