Soo hospital bomb threat deemed false

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie is open again, after a bomb threat closed it Thursday.

WLUC-TV says around 1:30 p.m. the hospital received the threat via email. Officials called 911 and City Police responded. Local law enforcement agencies assisted in establishing a perimeter around the hospital, and the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene.

Shortly after the perimeter was set up the hospital IT director said the threat was ransomware originating from Russia. Officials learned several threats had been sent to hospitals throughout Michigan over the past few days.

Security remained at the hospital and staff initiated a threats protocol.

Surrounding streets reopened around 2:50 p.m.; the hospital itself reopened to patients around 3:47 p.m.
