State airports get money through CARES Act

LANSING, MI00   Michigan airports are getting millions of dollars in funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. 

The grants will be used to prevent, prepare for, and respond to impacts from the COVID-19 virus.

In the Upper Peninsula, Sawyer International Airport is getting $18 million; the Delta County Airport in Escanaba is getting $1 million; Houghton County Memorial Airport in Hancock will receive $1 million; and Ford Airport in Iron Mountain and the Chippewa County International Airport in Sault Ste. Marie are getting $1 million each.

A total of $256 million in grants is slated for more than 90 airports across the state.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
