SUV hits semi in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   A woman was taken to the hospital after her SUV hit a semi in Escanaba Friday afternoon.

At about 4:48 p.m. Escanaba Public Safety officers were extinguishing a car fire when they were called to the 3000 block of M-35 near the airport entrance. When Escanaba officers arrived the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, and a Department of Natural Resources officer were on the scene. The Ford River Township Fire Department was also there with the Jaws of Life.

The SUV sustained significant damage and airbags were deployed. The driver’s side axle of the semi was also damaged.

The woman who was driving the SUV was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment, while the driver of the semi was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
