SAULT STE. MARIE, MI-- The Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools District was shut down Thursday, not because of snow but because of a threat.
On the district’s Facebook page Superintendent Tim Hall says late Wednesday night officials received a notification from the Michigan Intelligence Operation Center of a threat. Early Thursday morning they worked with law enforcement to close the district. Officers, a K9 and administration searched and cleared each building.
Just after 10 a.m. Thursday the Michigan Intelligence Operation Center received a retraction of the threat and notified the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department. Officers notified school administrators.
All school buildings have been cleared for re-entry. Hall says the district takes all precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
