Trial set for Shumate

MARQUETTE, MI--   A woman accused of assaulting another woman at an Ishpeming motel in January is headed to trial. 

Chloe Shumate, 22, is charged with assault with intent to murder, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, and interfering with electronic communications causing injury or death.

The assault allegedly happened at the Wonderland Motel. The 36-year-old victim was taken to UPHS-Bell for treatment.

A four-day jury trial is scheduled to begin August 27 in Marquette County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
