NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate man has died in a Negaunee Township snowmobile accident.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies say it happened Thursday around 9:36 a.m. on Trail #14 just west of Kalkaska Drive.  A 43-year-old Milan man was last in a group of six riders.  Investigation shows he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, lost control of his snowmobile, and hit a guard rail post and a sign.

When they saw he wasn’t behind them his fellow riders turned back, found the man unresponsive on the trail, and started CPR.  Emergency units were dispatched but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations, Marquette City Police, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier officers, Negaunee Township Fire/EMS, and UPHS-Marquette EMS.
