Visitors to be restricted from NMU for two additional weeks

MARQUETTE, MI--   Visitor restrictions are being extended at Northern Michigan University because of an increase in COVID-19 cases in Marquette County.

President Fritz Erickson says no visitors are allowed on campus unless approved by a division leader and no external individual may rent NMU facilities for an external group until the end of the semester. All large group activities—including club sports and intramurals—are on pause for two weeks.

Erickson says though the end of the semester is just three weeks away faculty and staff are ready to switch to remote learning only, if necessary.

As of Sunday afternoon 7 Northern employees have an active case of COVID-19; 7 on-campus students are active; and 24 off-campus students have the coronavirus.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
