Winebarger sentenced in Dickinson County for beating woman

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   An Iron Mountain man charged with severely beating a 27-year-old woman in June has been sentenced in Dickinson County Circuit Court.

Bobby Winebarger, Jr., 36, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder following the attack. The weapon was identified as a two-foot socket wrench.

The victim suffered significant injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery. Officials say she lost her spleen.

Winebarger pleaded guilty October 15. He was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months to 10 years in prison.

Winebarger was also sentenced to two 93-day jail terms for bond violations.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
