Woman killed in Sands fire identified

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the woman killed in a trailer fire last Saturday morning.

Deputies say the body of Judith Germain, 67, was found when the fire at the 553 Mobile Estates Trailer Park was extinguished. She lived in the trailer.

Officers responded to Lot #127 around 9 a.m. and saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure. Numerous attempts were made to look inside the trailer for Germain, but entry was not possible.

By the time the Sands Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and began to extinguish the blaze the trailer was heavily involved and any further rescue attempts could not be made.

No foul play is suspected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
