Woman says MSU discouraged her from reporting rape

EAST LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   The attorney for a student suing Michigan State University says campus counselors discouraged her client from reporting an alleged rape by three basketball players.

Karen Truszkowski spoke with WKAR Tuesday. She says her client went to the counseling center a few days after the incident in April of 2015, but was deterred from reporting by staff counselors.

“We see what happens to young women that pursue this, and it’s very difficult for them. And as I quoted in the complaint she was told, ‘If you do pursue this, you’re going to be swimming with some really big fish.’ So that frightened her to the point where she decided not to pursue it any further.”

The basketball players are not named in the suit.

WKAR says the MSU counseling center has not responded to a request for comment.
