Classiclectic Connection: Sing with the Symphony!

Marquette Symphony Orchestra Facebook Page

The Marquette Symphony Orchestra is sponsoring a brand new vocal competition.  Imagine performing with the ultimate back-up group, a professional symphony orchestra! Up to five vocal finalists of any age will perform with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra at its Pops/Family concert on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium. The Grand Prize Winner, chosen by audience vote, will return to perform with the orchestra during its 2020-2021 season.
Who is eligible?

Sing with the Symphony! is open to vocalists of any age residing in Marquette County. Any style, including pop, rock, R&B, country, Broadway and classical, is acceptable.

How do I audition?

Prepare one 3-5 minute video and upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video. Send the link along with your name, address, phone number and the name of the song to msovocalhopeful@gmail.com. Note that each applicant is limited to one submission. There is no fee to enter. Deadline is Friday, September 20, 2019.

What should I sing?

You may audition on any piece that showcases your vocal strengths and performing abilities. The review committee intends to select a group of finalists that represent a wide variety of vocal styles, from classical to contemporary.

Selection Process

By October 4, 2019, the review committee will choose 3-5 finalists as well as a ranked list of backup candidates. Conferring with each finalist, the committee will determine whether a suitable orchestral arrangement can be acquired or created for the finalist’s audition song. If this is not possible, the committee will suggest alternate songs. Every effort will be made to find a song that fits the singer’s vocal style and performing strengths while staying within the orchestra’s available resources. If, however, no song is found that is mutually acceptable to the committee and finalist, the committee will move on to the backup candidates. Finalists must give authorization to be included in publicity events and will commit to attending rehearsals as scheduled.
