NEGAUNEE, MI— The City of Negaunee held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week for its Teal Lake beach expansion project.
Officials increased the sandy area from 1,000 to 1,800 square feet, relocated stormwater discharge pipes, and installed Americans with Disabilities Act components like a picnic table, ramp, and beach mat.
The project cost a total of $107,700 dollars. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development gave the City of Negaunee an $82,600 grant and the city contributed 25 percent, or $25,100.
Upgrade recommendations came from Michigan State University's
Teal Lake Shoreline Climate and Health Adaptation Vision project, completed in July 2020.
