Fishing contest to raise funds for Wakefield Fire Department

WAKEFIELD, MI--   A kids’ fishing contest will raise funds for a Gogebic County fire department.

During Free Fishing Weekend the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its 9th annual ice fishing contest. Money raised during the event will be used to buy extrication and fire suppression equipment, including wildland firefighting equipment.

The contest takes place February 17 on Sunday Lake in Wakefield.

The event is being held during Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend. All fishing license fees are waived over the two-day period on inland and Great Lakes waters for all species of fish. All fishing regulations still apply.
