Erickson chosen to head Great Lakes Sports Commission Board

MARQUETTE, MI— Former NMU President Fritz Erickson has been selected to serve as chair of the Great Lakes Sports Commission Board of Directors.

During his tenure at Northern, Erickson added eight sports opportunities for young scholar athletes, including skiing, women’s wrestling, golf and lacrosse, and men’s soccer and swimming.

He has served as a board member for the GLSC since its inception in 2019 and replaces Doug Luciani as board chair.

Erickson says, "I have seen first-hand the community and economic impact sports has not only on the individual community but the entire region. I’m very excited about continuing the great work of the sports commission and supporting a wide range of sports.”

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
