MARQUETTE, MI--   The Superior Health Foundation has issued a request for proposals for U.P. programs that deal with substance abuse and related issues.  

Executive Director Jim LaJoie says more than $250,000 is available for projects that address substance use, especially those that include the components of education, prevention, aftercare, and potentially enforcement.

LaJoie says substance abuse has grown to epidemic proportions in the Upper Peninsula.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials are blaming substance abuse for a single-vehicle accident in Marquette Township that damaged a building.  

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Friday around 6:45 p.m. on Wright Street just north of Commerce Drive.  They say a 29-year-old Marquette woman was northbound when the vehicle swerved off the right side of the road, traveled across a sandy area and struck a building housing Taylor Made Furniture.
