UP institutions declared veteran-friendly

MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency has recognized several Upper Peninsula universities, colleges, and trade schools as veteran-friendly schools for the 2023-24 school year.

The VFS program recognizes academic institutions committed to supporting the needs of veterans and military-connected students. The schools are awarded Gold-, Silver-, and Bronze-level status based on their veteran-centric services and programs.

Earning Gold in the U.P. are Bay de Noc Community College, Lake Superior State University, Michigan Technological University, and Northern Michigan University. Earning Silver are Gogebic Community College and the Great Lakes Boat Building School.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
