Help a vet smile over the holidays

MARQUETTE, MI— Residents can help a veteran at the D.J. Jacobetti home in Marquette feel some cheer this holiday season.

The Make a Veteran Smile Campaign encourages Michiganders to send a letter, banner, or food tray liners with coloring or personal messages to a veteran.

Tiffany Carr is the community engagement coordinator for Michigan Veteran Homes. She says it might be the only message some vets receive around the holidays.

Officials say personal notes should be included in each card; paper food tray liners with coloring or personal messages are a great alternative to cards and letters, as they’re used during every meal service; and large cards or banners that can be hung are acceptable.

Letters can be addressed to ATTN: “Make a Vet Smile” and hand-delivered or mailed to Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti, 425 Fisher Street, Marquette, MI, 49855.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
