Alger County fish passage to be restored

ALGER COUNTY, MI— An Alger County project is getting a Fisheries Habitat Grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

The grant program provides funding for a variety of activities, including fish habitat conservation, dam removal and repair, resource assessment studies, and access to recreation opportunities like fishing.

The J.A. Woollam Foundation is getting more than $62,000 to restore a fish passage on the headwaters of the Fox River.

The DNR awarded more than $1.7 million for conservation projects on lakes and streams statewide.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
