Ironwood receives grant for water system

IRONWOOD, MI--   The City of Ironwood has received a $5,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for its water system.

The money is part of $477,000 given to communities around the state as part of the Source Water Protection Grant Program. It provides matching funds to develop and implement programs to protect source water from contamination.

The funds can be used to develop a surface water intake protection program for systems that use surface water. Or the money can be used to develop a wellhead protection program for those systems that use groundwater sources.
