Local military veterans, along with one son of a veteran, share stories and poems of life in the U.S. armed forces overseas, after the return home, and as children of veterans. Their words will tell the stories you don’t see on television or read in the newspapers, the stories of regular folk put in extraordinary situations.

Kaylyn Bernard's untitled story is about her taking part in the 2013 Boston Marathon. She was a combat veteran in Iraq serving in 2006 as MOS 92-A, Automated Logistical Specialist.

Michael Brennan was an Aviation Bosun's Mate Handler, 3rd class, in the US Navy from 2005 to 2009. He served on the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Carl Vinson.

Michael Greer was a Sergeant E-5 in the US Army 2nd Battalion 59th. He served from September 1969 to August 1971.

Gabe Waskiewicz's father, Michael Joseph Waskiewicz, served in the army from 1968 to 1969 and received an honorable discharge.

Milton Bates served as a Sergeant in the army from 1970 to 1971 during the Vietnam War.

Tony Williams was a 'Buck' Sergeant in the army's 145th Combat Aviation Battalion in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970. He also served in the National Guard from 1984 to 1988.

Allen Learst was an E4 in the army with the 101st Air Mobil in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971.

Alex Gubbins served as sergeant in the US Army Reserve from 2000 to 2008. He was deployed to the War in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 where he served as an army enlisted counselor.
