Hope for Vista Theater

NEGAUNEE, MI--   The Historic Vista Theater in Negaunee is trying to raise funds to fix a roof cave-in.

Officials say a blocked roof drain and heavy rains caused the roof to collapse into the building on August 26. They say experts have determined the building itself is stable, so the Vista Board has created a GoFundMe page to raise $100,000 for repairs.

Wall supports are estimated to cost about $33,000; another $30,000 is needed to install temporary wall structures to preserve the stage and balcony areas; and it will take more than $31,000 to clear debris from inside the building.

Officials say all this needs to be done before winter.

Any remaining funds raised will go toward the $150,000 cost of a new roof.
