Court hearing reveals how Carney woman died

MENOMINEE, MI--   The cause of death of a Menominee County woman was revealed during her alleged killer’s preliminary hearing Tuesday.

The body of Jolene Eichhorn, 43, of Carney was found in the trunk of her car September 9 at Cedar River State Harbor Park.  Gregory Ihander, 48, was arrested shortly afterward on a charge of open murder.

An autopsy report indicates Eichhorn died of massive blood loss due to multiple stab wounds that lacerated her carotid artery.

A detective from the Gladstone State Police Post says he found blood-stained cloth and other items in a garbage bag found in Ihander’s bathtub.

Ihander has been bound over to Menominee County Circuit Court.  Arraignment is set for October 5.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
