Menominee trial starts for murder suspect

MENOMINEE, MI--   Trial has begun for a Menominee County man accused of killing his girlfriend. 

Gregory Ihander, 49, is charged with open murder in the death of Jolene Eichhorn, 43, of Carney.  Eichhorn’s body was found in the trunk of her car on September 9, 2015 at Cedar River State Harbor Park.  An autopsy revealed she’d been stabbed multiple times. 

A detective from the Gladstone State Police Post said he found a blood-stained cloth and other items in a garbage bag in Ihander’s bathtub.

Ihander faces up to life in prison. Trial is expected to last about two weeks.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
