Houghton scam targets UPPCO customers

HOUGHTON, MI--   Upper Peninsula Power Company is urging its customers to be aware of a scam in the Houghton area.

UPPCO officials say someone has been calling residents and threatening to disconnect their service if payment arrangements aren’t made.  UPPCO says if a customer is behind on their bill they would receive a notice in the mail.

Anyone who receives such a call should not give out any personal information.  They should write down any details the caller provides, take note of the call date and time, any number they’re asked to call back, and any information showing up on caller ID.

Customers who get a suspicious call are also urged to report it to UPPCO at 800-562-7680.
