Don't fall for phone scam in Calumet, police say

CALUMET, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post are urging residents to hang up on a current telephone scam.

Several people have reported callers pretending to be a grandchild or other relative who say they’re in jail. The initial caller may hand the phone to a second person claiming to be their attorney. Either the first caller or second party will ask for bond money so the supposed relative can be released from jail. Many of the calls sound urgent.

Troopers are reminding the public these calls are not legitimate. They say do not give out any personal information, do not call any number provided, and just hang up.
