Police catch Ishpeming vandals

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Ishpeming Police Department says it has identified the suspects who vandalized the downtown area last weekend.

The 16- and 17-year-old Marquette boys have confessed to spray-painting buildings and the “Old Ish” statue.

The case is being turned over to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Both boys are facing multiple counts of malicious destruction of property and violating the state’s stay-at-home order.

Officials says a Range Telecommunications surveillance system on Santa’s House in Ishpeming recorded the vandalism as it occurred.

Police thank residents for their assistance in the case.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
