Suspects arrested in Menominee face multiple drug-related charges

MENOMINEE, MI--   Three people were arrested in Menominee Friday during a drug bust.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team executed a controlled purchase of meth from two suspects at a residence. Investigation also revealed the manufacture of meth using the “one pot” method.

A search warrant uncovered several individual bags of crystal meth totaling about an ounce. A small amount of fentanyl, LSD, and prescription pills were also seized, as well as an undisclosed amount of money and scales that tested positive for meth.

Clandestine lab responders secured components used to manufacture the drug.

The following men were arrested Friday and arraigned Monday on the following charges:

Kyle Smith, 24, of Menominee

  • Delivery of meth
  • Possession with intent to deliver meth
  • Manufacturing meth
  • Operating/maintaining a meth lab
  • Operating/maintaining a meth lab involving hazardous waste
  • Operating/maintaining a lab within 500 feet of a specified structure (residence, school, church, business)
  • Maintaining a drug house
  • Possession of Xanax

Mikeal Scantlen, 27, of Manitowoc, WI

  • Delivery of meth
  • Manufacturing meth
  • Operating/maintaining a meth lab
  • Operating/maintaining a meth lab involving hazardous waste
  • Operating/maintaining a lab within 500 feet of a specified structure
  • Malicious destruction of police property
  • Maintaining a drug house

Romulus Ard, 44, of Green Bay, WI

  • Possession with intent to deliver meth
  • Possession of fentanyl

All suspects are lodged in the Menominee County Jail on $150,000 bonds.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
