Several suspects nabbed on drug charges in the Keweenaw

MARQUETTE, MI— Five people were arrested by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team for drug crimes over the past three weeks in Houghton and Baraga Counties.

They were involved in separate investigations and are not related.

  • Vickie Johnson, 57, of Hancock was arrested for delivery of hydrocodone. She posted a $500 bond and was released.

  • UPSET and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Elizabeth Nipper of Calumet for delivery of meth. She remains lodged on a $5,000 bond.

  • After a four-month investigation detectives and deputies arrested Joshua Lacasse, 37, of Hancock on two counts of delivery of meth. His bond was set at $10,000.

  • Brandon Smejkal, 39, of Baraga is lodged in the Baraga County Jail on a delivery of meth charge. His bond is set at $1,000.

  • And 20-year-old Dylan Kangas of Calumet is jailed on one count of delivery of meth. His bond was set at $5,000.
Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
